San Antonio's road conditions are harder on suspension components than most Texas cities. The combination of temperature cycling, heavy truck traffic on Loop 410 and I-35, and the concrete expansion joints on IH-10 create constant micro-impacts that accelerate wear in ball joints, strut mounts, and control arm bushings. Most vehicles we see in San Antonio show suspension wear at 60,000–80,000 miles — not the 100,000+ some manufacturers suggest. If your car feels loose, wandering, or bottoms out on bumps it didn't used to notice, the suspension is telling you something.
Struts are the most common suspension repair we handle on-site. Danny arrives with a professional spring compressor — the specialized tool required to safely separate the spring from the strut cartridge. He compresses the spring, swaps the cartridge, and reinstalls the assembly at your driveway or parking lot. After torquing all fasteners to spec with a calibrated wrench, he performs a road test that includes straight-line stability, lane-change feel, and a brake-in-turn test to confirm handling is fully restored.
Most strut replacements take 2–3 hours per axle. Complete strut assembly replacements (spring and strut together) are faster — 1.5–2 hours per axle — and the better investment if your springs are original and the vehicle has 80,000+ miles.
A clunking noise over bumps is usually the first sign of a worn ball joint or control arm bushing. A wandering steering feel that gets worse on the freeway often points to loose control arm bushings or worn tie rod ends. These components are load-bearing — a ball joint failure at highway speed is a catastrophic safety event, not a maintenance inconvenience. If you hear clunking from the front of your vehicle, get it inspected before the next road trip.
Strut replacement starts at $249 per corner — parts and labor. Control arm replacement starts at $299 per side. Ball joint replacement starts at $249 per side. A dealer in San Antonio typically charges $450–$700 per corner for struts alone. We do the same repair with OEM-equivalent parts at your driveway.
Note: if you replace struts or control arms, an alignment is required to restore proper tire contact angles. We don't do alignments, but we'll tell you upfront if your vehicle needs one and recommend a reputable shop. We won't complete a suspension repair and pretend an alignment isn't needed — that's how tires wear unevenly and handling problems persist.
Toyota Camry and Corolla front struts, Honda Accord and Civic strut assemblies, Ford F-150 and F-250 ball joints and control arms, Chevy Silverado shock absorbers, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler track bar and control arm replacement, Nissan Altima and Sentra rear struts, and Hyundai/Kia front strut assemblies. European vehicles (BMW, Mercedes, Audi) with air suspension or adaptive dampers — call us first to confirm scope.
Tesla SPECIFICS
Tesla vehicles don't have oil changes, timing belts, or traditional engine maintenance — but they do require regular service that most people overlook. We handle all non-high-voltage Tesla maintenance: 12V auxiliary battery replacement (this is the most critical Tesla service — a dead 12V strands the vehicle completely and requires a tow; Tesla 12V batteries typically last 3–5 years and should be replaced proactively), cabin air filter replacement (Tesla recommends annually for HEPA-equipped models), brake fluid flush (Tesla recommends every 2 years; the fluid absorbs moisture and the ABS system's hydraulic performance depends on low-moisture fluid), and brake pad inspection (regenerative braking extends pad life dramatically — most Tesla owners see 80,000–100,000 miles on original pads, but calipers can seize from disuse).
Tesla brake service is unusual: pads wear very slowly due to regenerative braking, but rear calipers are known to seize because the mechanical friction brakes are rarely needed. A seized rear caliper drags the pad against the rotor, creating uneven wear and heat. Annual brake caliper lubrication and inspection prevents this. We service Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X braking systems at your home in San Antonio.
High-voltage battery pack issues, motor replacements, and any repair requiring HV system access must go to Tesla Service or a licensed EV facility with HV safety certification. We won't attempt HV work — not because we can't diagnose it, but because the liability and safety requirements are non-negotiable. We'll tell you exactly what the issue is and whether it requires Tesla involvement.
