What Auto AC & Heating Repair Actually Involves

This is not guesswork repair. Your vehicle gets a data-driven diagnostic workflow before, during, and after every service.

  1. Check 01

Manifold gauge set connected to measure high and low-side refrigerant pressures — confirms if the system is low on refrigerant or has a component failure

  2. Check 02

UV dye injection and UV leak detection used to pinpoint refrigerant leaks at the condenser, evaporator, or hose fittings

  3. Check 03

Blend door actuator and blower motor tested with a bi-directional scanner — catches heater-side failures without guessing

AC Repair in San Antonio — It's Not Optional Here

In most parts of the country, a broken air conditioner is an inconvenience. In San Antonio, where temperatures routinely hit 100–108°F from June through September, it's a health and safety issue. Driving in stop-and-go traffic on Loop 410 or I-35 in that heat with no AC is dangerous. If your system is blowing warm air, making unusual sounds, or cycling erratically, don't wait until the compressor fails completely — early diagnosis almost always costs significantly less than a full system repair.

What Mobile AC Diagnostics Cover

Danny arrives with professional manifold gauges and connects to your high and low-side service ports to read actual refrigerant pressures — not estimates. Low suction pressure typically indicates low refrigerant. High discharge pressure can indicate a failing condenser or blocked expansion valve. Normal pressures with warm cabin air often point to a blend door actuator or blower motor issue, which has nothing to do with refrigerant at all.

For refrigerant leaks, he uses UV dye injection and a UV leak detection light to pinpoint the exact failure point — condenser, evaporator core, O-ring fittings, or hose fittings. Recharging a leaking system without finding and fixing the leak is money wasted inside of two months.

R-134a vs. R-1234yf — Which Does Your Car Use?

Vehicles manufactured before approximately 2015 use R-134a refrigerant. Most 2017 and newer vehicles use R-1234yf, which requires EPA-certified recovery equipment and costs significantly more per pound than R-134a. Danny confirms your refrigerant type from your VIN before the appointment so there are no surprises. He carries both refrigerant types and the certified recovery equipment for each.

AC Repair Pricing in San Antonio

A simple recharge (leak-free system that's low on refrigerant) starts at $149. Leak detection, O-ring replacement, and recharge typically runs $200–$350 depending on where the leak is. A compressor replacement starts at $850 and varies by vehicle. We quote the full scope before starting any work — no surprises when it's time to pay.

Dealer quotes for AC compressor replacement in San Antonio routinely come in at $1,200–$1,800. We do the same work with the same quality parts at your driveway for significantly less.

How AC Repair Pricing Compares Around San Antonio

A dealership visit for a refrigerant recharge typically runs $250–$600, climbing to $1,300–$2,500+ if a compressor is involved — and that's before factoring in a loaner car or a day without your vehicle. Franchise chains like Firestone or Christian Brothers land in the middle at $180–$400 for a recharge and $1,000–$1,800 for a compressor swap. Independent shops are usually the best of the shop options, at $150–$350 for a recharge and $900–$1,600 for a compressor. Our mobile pricing starts below all three — $149 for R-134a (or $199 for R-1234yf) and $850+ for a compressor — because there's no shop overhead and no tow required; Danny brings the manifold gauges and refrigerant to your driveway.

This customer had been having issues with the AC for years, not blowing cold. When I got the call for the job and took a look at the vehicle, I noticed the AC compressor wasn't engaging when the driver commanded the AC on. I recommended an AC compressor replacement with a 134a recharge to the exact refrigerant capacity according to specs. When removing the compressor, I noticed that I had to remove the passenger engine mount and lift the engine just a little to make room to remove the old compressor and install the new one. If you have the same vehicle, take note of the process described above when performing an AC compressor replacement.

Yes. We carry refrigerant (R-134a and R-1234yf for newer vehicles) and EPA-certified recovery equipment. We recharge to the exact manufacturer-specified pressure — not just "full" by a can gauge, which is imprecise.

Refrigerant doesn't evaporate under normal conditions — it only disappears if there's a leak. We check for leaks before recharging, because refilling a leaking system is a temporary fix that wastes your money.

No — the AC system is a sealed loop that holds refrigerant regardless of ambient temperature. We work on AC systems year-round and the outdoor temperature doesn't affect our ability to diagnose or repair the system.

Usually it's a low coolant level (the heater core uses engine coolant as the heat source), a stuck blend door not routing air through the heater core, or a faulty thermostat. We diagnose the root cause before recommending parts.

In San Antonio's heat, functional AC is essential for safety, not just comfort. We'll give you an honest assessment of whether the repair cost makes sense given your vehicle's overall condition and value.

A refrigerant recharge (the most common fix) starts at $149 for R-134a systems and $199 for newer R-1234yf vehicles. A blower motor replacement typically runs $180–$280 parts and labor. Compressor replacement — the most expensive repair — runs $850–$1,400 depending on make and model. We quote the exact price before starting any work.

Yes — same-day appointments are available most days. Book online or call (210) 570-9220 and we'll come to your home, apartment parking lot, or office. Most AC repairs take 1–2 hours on-site.

The most common causes are low refrigerant from a slow leak, a failed AC compressor, a clogged condenser, a faulty blend door actuator, or a failing blower motor. We diagnose the root cause with manifold gauges before recommending any parts — so you only pay for what you actually need.

A straightforward refrigerant recharge takes 30–45 minutes on-site. If we find a leak during the recharge process, diagnosing its source adds another 20–30 minutes. We tell you upfront if it's just a recharge or if there's an underlying problem that needs to be fixed first.

We come to you — your home, apartment lot, or office anywhere in the San Antonio metro. There's no shop to drive to and no tow needed. We bring the manifold gauges, refrigerant, and recovery equipment on-site and diagnose or repair your car's AC right in your driveway.

Often, yes. We work 6 AM to 10 PM, 7 days a week, and same-day AC appointments are frequently available when you call early. Call (210) 570-9220 or book online and we will confirm the soonest time.
